Background

Floating Point representation is analogous to Scientific Notation.

Example:

        14568 = 1456.8 * 10 = 145.68 * 102 = 14.568 * 103
              = 1.4568 * 104

Normalized Scientific Notation:

• Have 1 non-zero digit to left of decimal point
• 0 is a special case
