Feel free to clone or just download this repository if you want copies of Alyce's introductions to UNIX and vi, or if you want copies of dot files (files for customizing your UNIX experience) containing a wealth of useful bash aliases and environment variables.

The repository includes:

  • bash aliases: Some of the most useful are:

    a	list all aliases (alias a='alias')
    back	go to previous working directory (before last cd) (alias back='cd "$OLDPWD"')
    dirt	list contents of directory & its subdirectories (alias dirt='ls -aFR')
    l	list all files in directory; highlight directories, executables, symbolic links (alias l='ls -aF')
    ll	long listing of all files in directory with human-readable file sizes (alias ll='ls -alF')
    recent	show most recently changed files in this directory (alias recent='ls -alt | head')
    Also has misc. aliases for working with apache & git

  • environment variables: Some of the most useful are:

    PATH	directories where executables may be found
    CDPATH	directories you go to frequently
    PS1	customize your primary prompt (e.g., show hostname & current directory)
